NP.  But it's quite interesting to know that BGINFO can tell you what the
CPU is.  Maybe you could contact the author and ask him/her what code they
use to get the CPU info.

  The first link lets you download a program called WCPUID. I ran it on my
XP Pro laptop and it blue-screened it. I tried it on a server and it
wouldn't start - some vague error and it never actually started.

  The second link took me to a page where it listed a ton of information
about CPU's, but I didn't see anything that told me what a "x86 Family 15
Model 2 Stepping 4" is.

  The last link was to an Intel utility that did the trick, but it has to be
installed on the machine. You'd think someone would just have a chart that
shows a list of CPU's and what they show up as in Windows 2000. Thanks for
the info.
