Bearing in mind I've not yet tried to install Office 2007, but wasn't
this same scenario present with Office 2003 - ie there was a setup
program, but there were also msi files for the various incarnations of
the product?

Aren't any of the msi files in the various folders on the Office 2007 CD
installable, or correct for installation? And if they're not, can't you
create an admin install from the main setup program, and then use the
results of that?
