Trevor and I have both talked about our problems with Rapport 4.0 in the past. I was a beta tester for 4.4 and I totally agree with Trevor's post. Without parroting everything he said suffice it to say that it is a lot less clunky than 4.0. A lot of the issues we had with 4.0 seem to be fixed in 4.4. We were running it with SQL, but when we went to 4.4 I switched it over to MSDE. The main reason being for this change was that during troubleshooting of 4.0 problems Wyse support had wanted us to isolate Rapport from the rest of the network. This was impossible with a seperate SQL server that was in production for other applications. -Mike MacDonald ----- Original Message ----- From: Trevor Fuson To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, October 07, 2004 6:35 PM Subject: [THIN] Initial review of Wyse Rapport 4.4 The installation worked without manual tweaking and multiple re-installs which is a welcome change. Unfortunately there is still no Server 2003 support, the latest O/S you can reliably run Rapport on is still Server 2000. Rapport does support Windows XP, however it doesn't work reliably because of the 10 concurrent TCP connection limitation in the O/S. The auto configuration of FTP server still gives anonymous users write access to the FTP server, so you will still need to ensure that you lock down the server after the installation is finished. Device discovery greatly improved with IP range walking and a new dialog box that includes a progress bar and more information about the status of the device discovery. The product itself seems much more solid, there is less flickering and redrawing when switching between management screens. I will be testing the multiple device update capabilities later and let you all know how it goes, the release notes state that the FTP transfer reliability has been improved and I really want to see if they have fixed this problem. In addition I am curious if they have fixed the CE device configuration bugs. So far it looks like there has been huge improvement in terms of the reliability of the product.
