The installation worked without manual tweaking and multiple re-installs
which is a welcome change. Unfortunately there is still no Server 2003
support, the latest O/S you can reliably run Rapport on is still Server
2000. Rapport does support Windows XP, however it doesn't work reliably
because of the 10 concurrent TCP connection limitation in the O/S.

The auto configuration of FTP server still gives anonymous users write
access to the FTP server, so you will still need to ensure that you lock
down the server after the installation is finished.

Device discovery greatly improved with IP range walking and a new dialog
box that includes a progress bar and more information about the status
of the device discovery. The product itself seems much more solid,
there is less flickering and redrawing when switching between management
screens.

I will be testing the multiple device update capabilities later and let
you all know how it goes, the release notes state that the FTP transfer
reliability has been improved and I really want to see if they have
fixed this problem. In addition I am curious if they have fixed the CE
device configuration bugs.

So far it looks like there has been huge improvement in terms of the
reliability of the product.

Trevor.

Wyse Enhances Ease of Use and Performance of Leading Device Management
Software

Leader in Server-Centric Computing Sets New Standards for Managing Thin
Clients and Other Network Devices with Wyse(tm) Rapport(r) V4.4

CITRIX IFORUM - ORLANDO, Fla. (10/04/04) - Wyse Technology, the domain
experts in server-centric computing (SCC), announced today an enhanced
version of its leading Rapport device management software to address
customer demand for increased functionality and ease of use. Wyse(r)
Rapport(tm) V4.4 is an advanced version of a single software platform
that allows network administrators to centrally manage and control a
broad set of network devices - local and remote, from desktop and tablet
thin clients to Palm and Pocket PC handheld devices, including PDAs,
scanners, and other mobile devices.

Rapport simplifies IT management, reduces the total cost of ownership
and improves the return on investment for network devices. The solution
has set the industry standard for device management solutions for more
than four years.

"Independent evaluations and industry analysis agree that Wyse Rapport
is the most feature rich, flexible and scalable device management
solution in the market today," said Craig Denney, Rapport Product
Manager at Wyse. "Wyse Rapport V4.4 continues a tradition of leadership
and again sets a new standard for device management solutions in terms
of performance, management capabilities, and usability. The market is
demanding a software solution that's even easier and more efficient to
license, install and operate, and that's exactly what we're delivering
in the new version of Rapport."

Rapport V4.4 includes easier license activation, faster installation,
integration of the Wyse Imaging System, improved device discovery and
more extensive user documentation. These new features allow network
administrators to better manage their network devices, more efficiently
deliver software updates to devices and improve user productivity using
thin clients.

Rapport's device management solution features software distribution,
including the deployment of firmware, operating systems, and
applications, and asset management in the form of hardware and software
inventory. Rapport also handles configuration management for systems and
applications, as well as device diagnostics. The end result is easier
deployment, remote troubleshooting capabilities, and lower support and
maintenance costs within a scalable, multiple-device platform.

"Rapport V4.4 is part of Wyse's overall strategy to help customers adapt
server-centric computing to their specific needs, from the server to the
edge of the network," added Denney. Wyse Rapport V4.4 Workgroup edition
will continue to be bundled with every Wyse(r) Winterm(tm) thin client,
and the Enterprise edition upgrade is available immediately at the
suggested retail price of $30.00.
