The Doorway
Every morning, after *davening* *neitz* (sunrise prayers) at the
Kotel, I walk back up the stairs and go into the Arab *shuk* on my way to
my apartment. I stop and turn around looking down the *shuk* to the very
end where there is a small (usually) open doorway. It leads onto the Temple
Mount and is a few yards directly to the west of the site where most people
believe the two Temples’ Holy of Holies stood.
I usually think (feel), “Something’s missing,” referring not only to
the Third Temple, but mostly to the lack of Hashem’s revealed Presence that
will soon dwell there again. ----
