How Important are the Children?
A friend just wrote that he has a new job as the principal of a Chabad
cheder (elementary school).
I wrote back, “That job is the most important job in the World….
without the next generation of Jews … we will have accomplished nothing! I
know you will, but still, wanting to stress it… make sure they learn the
Torah and *mitzvoth* with joy.”
All of the many dedicated teachers of Torah in the World today, the
thousands of Jewish outreach workers, the synagogue leaders, all our work
is only to ensure that there will be a Torah in the World, and not only
while we are here, but certainly in this world even after we are gone. The
only way there is going to be Torah observance in the next generation is if
today’s children learn to love the Torah and its *mitzvoth*, and the only
way to ensure this will happen is for the children to learn the joy of
serving Hashem.
