"In the Moment"
Wonder Girl and Green Arrow II

It had been decided that while she was training Selene would stay under the radar. Barbara didn’t want to send a compete street novice, who she just happened to watch grow up, out into the real world and Selene didn’t want to tip her mother off. She knew the moment her mother found out about Wonder Girl she was going to hit the roof, and even though she expected her mother’s tirade, she didn’t want her mother blasting Barbara. As she stood on the roof of the Gotham museum playing look out for Huntress she couldn’t help but smile. The more time she spent with Oracle and her birds, the more her already great respect grew, and the more she was convinced that Oracle was an even match for her mother and could stand up to the great Princess Diana and even Wonder Woman. She couldn’t help the soft laugh, she’d actually enjoy seeing that.

After spending an hour in the rain she’d finally gotten the all clear from her teachers and was on her way back to Barbara’s. She liked her weekends with the redhead and her daughter, it was so different then life on campus and life at the Embassy. It actually gave her a chance to be a normal nineteen year old kid. When she was there in the apartment she wasn’t a super hero in training or a princess or a diplomat in training, she was just Selene.

Pulling the grapple gun from it’s hook on her belt, Selene aimed it for the building across from her. She felt silly using a grapple and jump lines, but it was part of her training. What if something were to happen to her powers? It had happened to Cassie, Oracle had pointed out. It had taken two weeks of training with Huntress before she stopped kicking into a true fright and flight mode. Every time she’d jump, her instincts would kick in before the jump line went taught and she’d end up flying. Now, as she sailed over Gotham in the only true way to sail over Gotham, she could understand the thrill and freedom of doing it this way.

She was half way across Gotham, the clocktower in sight, when something prickled her enhanced hearing. The sounds of a fight wasn’t something unusual for Gotham, even the sound of a cross bow wasn’t unheard of because of Huntress, but the sound of a taught bow string from a hunter’s bow, now that was an unusual sound. On pure impulse Selene switched directions and headed for the sounds. When she landed on the roof of a warehouse, she crouched to watch. Somewhere in the back of her mind a voice was telling her to call Oracle, and for a moment her hand hovered over her ear piece, but the sound of gun shots distracted her. In seconds she was on the roof of the warehouse, looking in through a skylight. She was only partly surprised by what she saw.

Again on impulse she jumped through the skylight, landing beside the guy in the middle of a group of thugs. Instantly her arms went up, deflecting the bullets being aimed at the man behind her. He was about a head taller then she was. His hair was blonde, she couldn’t see his eyes behind the mask he wore, but he had an amazing smile. He was dressed in green tights, a green shirt, and a brown jerkin. The first time she’d run into him, nearly a month ago when he’d dropped in to give Huntress a hand which really ticked off her teacher, her mind went right to Robin Hood, but then Barbara’s lessons had kicked in and she’d realized who he was. “Awfully far from Star City aren’t you, Arrow?”

Green Arrow; or technically Green Arrow II was a vigilantly out of Star City. The second to carry the name, the first having been around when Barbara was still bopping along rooftops with a gold bat on her chest. He smiled as his fist landed in the face of a goon. “Told you last time Wonder Girl, I got business in Gotham.”

Taking her lasso from her belt, Wonder Girl easily used it to rope the gunmen then pull him from his preach on the catwalk above them. With the gunman out cold, she was free to bust heads. “You know how the Bats and Birds feel about outsiders, and this is the third time I‘ve seen you since Huntress warned you of just that.”

“And what are you?” He asked, a touch of teasing in his voice. “Last time I checked Gotham wasn’t Wonder territory either.”

Wonder Girl smirked as she ducked a punch, then swept her leg out to topple the thug. The difference between a contest fight, and a street fight was so huge that she once again found herself thanking the Gods for Barbara’s training. Then she realized how much trouble she was in when she got back to the clocktower. This wasn’t exactly keeping under the radar. “Little Birdies are allowed, besides what better place to get my street feet wet?”

That made him laugh. “So the Wonders are going darker?”

“Well, this one is.” She smirked as she used him as leverage, pressing her back against his while kicking out with both feet. “Figure while Wonder Woman’s taking on the mythical threats, I could help with the more domestic kind.”

Green Arrow smirked as he reached behind him, grabbing her by the wrists and helping her flip over him. His smirk grew into a smile when she took out two more thugs when her boots crashed into their faces.

As the fight wound down, Wonder Girl could feel the remaining thugs trying to separate her from Arrow. Again it was her hearing that picked up on the threat. Spinning she saw the flash only seconds after the hammer click. “Arrow!”

Before he could react Green Arrow felt himself being pushing to the ground.

As she drove for him, Wonder Girl took her tiara off and threw it. It wasn’t a batarang, but it had the same effect. Their bodies hit the ground with a thud, and as she reached up to retrieve the tiara that had just knocked the last of the thugs unconscious, she was suddenly very aware that she was laying on top of him. His body was warm and strong, she could feel the hardness of well defined muscle through his costume and hers.

“So it’s not just an accessory.” He breathed out as he stared up into blue eyes.

Her throat and mouth felt dry all of a sudden as she looked down into his eye mask. “Everything has it’s purpose.”

For several moments the two simply lay there looking into each others eyes, finally after what seemed like an eternally of slow sallow breathing, Green Arrow reached up and pulled her down into a kiss.

Selene was taken aback but once the shock wore off she found herself returning the kiss. The sound of police sirens finally made her pull away. “Cops.”

Green Arrow smiled. “Then lets get out of here.”

She nodded, then got to her feet. A moment later she fired off a jump line, Green Arrow right behind her. Somewhere between the warehouse and the East Bride, he’d stopped following her. Standing on there, looking out over the city, her fingers reached up to brush at her lips. She smiled. “I’m gonna have to start spending more time in Gotham.”
