While looking for the great black backed gull, I found an orange-knobbed black
scoter quite close to shore near the extreme end of Skyline Drive (pass the
yellow pump station). Also at the tip were at least 6 common goldeneyes.
The strong north wind was keeping them close.

On Texas City Dike itself I saw over 50 loons, about 20 eared grebes, six
buffleheads, another goldeneye, red breasted mergansers and most of the
expected birds (herring, ring billed, laughing gulls, royal, forester terns,
pelicans, both kinds of cormorants, oystercatchers, etc.)

Dipped on black backed gull.

Dipped yesterday on long tailed duck at San Jacinto but at least there were
four hooded merganser conveniently near the ferry landing.
