[texbirds] Yesterday pictures, Glaucous gull, terns, tanagers, hawks and more

The best bird of the day was the continuing glaucous gull on the texas city
dike

It was loafing in the grassy patch next door as people were fishing from
his usual perch on the boat launch pilings. He kept his attention on the
cleaning station when ever anyone new walked by

There was some very dried fish pieces in the wheel ruts that he kept
picking at

Some of the sandwich terns nearby seemed to have too many bills

A female least tern was being fed by 2 hopeful males. It took the males
about 30 seconds to catch a minnow right opposite her

There were 4 piping plovers on the beach at bolivar flats with 2 of them
banded

The sanderling roost had some birds turning chestnut

Most of the laughing gulls at the ferry have deserted, probably for the
nesting grounds. All the large herring gulls from a week ago were gone too
and were gone from the dike and beach as well

The entrance to boy scout woods is a great place for inca doves

Mulberries are ripe and are providing food for lots of birds

When you watch a hawk, you need to be ready to be watched back

Hawks are usually easier to approach after foggy or damp weather as their
feathers get very wet

Lots of purple gallinules back at shoveler pond

Several summer tanagers were along the road down to frozen point. This
younger male is only partially red
