On my drive to the coast today via La Grange, I stopped by Shipp Lake
near Smithville ...The numbers of waders are increasing and there was
single Wood Stork on the north side of the RR Tracks. Pretty far out
but just with my bins it looked like an imm. Nothing else unusually
just an increasing number of birds. Then at the north end of 1289
southwest of Port Lavaca in a rice field on the east side of the road
were another 20 or so.

Petra Hockey wrote a nice article for the local newspaper with color
photos of the Calhoun Co. Flamingos. You can see it here.

The Pauraque called briefly this morning around 4:45-5A then went
silent. Steve M. drove out last night for it but we had nada, very
odd too is that the Chucks were not even calling. I am going to guess
mornings are better now as I had two plus the Pauraque going to town.

I find it a bit strange that so many martins are already piling up
in Austin. For the folks that visit the roost site, are you noting a
lot of HY birds or very few?....The martins in Port O'Connor have not
even fledged yet. I am just curious as to if the drought impacts did
not result of lots of failed nesting attempts and thus the reason for
the numbers there.
