Sorry for the late post but my Internet was down for 1 1/2 days. Yesterday I birded the JJ Meyes Trace part of the Wallisville Corp Of Engineers Project. The entrance is between the Old and Lost River Bridge and the Trinity River Bridge on I-10 when heading East. On the way in I walked the Wooded area just in the gate and found Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, Great Horned Owl, Blue-headed Vireo, both Kinglets, Orange-crowned Warbler, Red-shouldered Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, Ash-throated Flycatcher, in amongst all the Yellow-rumped Warblers. Back on Dec 31st I also found Red-breasted Nuthatches and a juvenile White-eyed Vireo' Driving the road in there were Roseatte Spoonbills, White Ibis, Great Blue Heron, both Great and Snowy Egrets, Canvasbacks, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Northern Shovelers, Both Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal, Mottled Duck, Pied-billed Grebes, 2 female Common Goldeneyes, Coots, Common Gallinule, Am Kestrels, and last but not least a lone dark Ibis that I called White-faced for lack of being able to see it good enough to call it any thing else. If you take the short gravel road to the left when you come to it, it dead ends into a parking lot and you can walk the side of the river. There have been lots of Forsters Terns and Brown Pelicans diving in that area for food. There is also two places where you can walk boardwalks across the marsh to the river and then you can walk up or down river and back across to your vehicle. This area has been very birdie also. And yes this is in my Patch! David Hanson Baytown/Mont Belvieu Area Chambers Co.
