After this weekend I count 17 patches over 100 species of bird, and 9 more in the 90's knocking on the door of 100. Those who are active on our little Facebook group (now 162 people!) are reporting how much fun they are having exploring their local area and finding some good birds close to home. Myself I'm having a blast slipping away for 2-3 hours once a week for some birding without burning a tank of gas. I can't wait to start hunting migrants after work in a few weeks. If you are curious about how everyone is doing we have a document that lists a large number of totals on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/groups/247047528758661/doc/247205308742883/ if you would like to check it out. You're only competing with yourself in the challenge, so if you want to participate you can out as much or as little effort into it as you want. Our Facebook group is at http://www.facebook.com/groups/247047528758661/ and if you want to help setting up your "patch" circle, check out the files tab for some documents on how to define your circle and track it on eBird. -- David Sarkozi Houston, TX (713) 412-4409 twitter ID dsarkozi Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
