I posted a picture last week of a sandpiper taken on Bolivar that I did not label http://www.pbase.com/joseph_kennedy_36/image/144415704 I had assumed that this bird and several others further back were red knots or in this case grey knots but in looking at the picture the stance and lighting made the bird look different. When I first looked at the picture I thought phalarope but the bird's bill is too thick for that species and the long neck look is really an affect of the light on the back of the neck. Also too much markings on the chest and flanks. The light was terrible and the bird was far away. I only took pictures of the birds way back there to see if there was anything I missed after I got home. Did get another example of why one cannot rely on a single picture for easy id's. Comments I got included knot, phalarope and maybe a phalarope but not due to the bill. -- Joseph C. Kennedy on Buffalo Bayou in West Houston Josephkennedy36@xxxxxxxxx
