We hope that you will join us for this special event, made possible by Austin-based Victor Emanuel Nature Tours. Denver is widely regarded as among the worldâs top owl researchers and experts. A graduate of the University of Montana, Denver is the founder and president of the Owl Research Institute and the Ninepipes Wildlife Research Center, a nonprofit organization located in Charlo, Montana. Since 1978, Denver has been doing long-term field studies on owls and their ecology, with special focus on Snowy, Long-eared and Northern Pygmy-Owls. His research findings and associated articles have been published in a range of technical and mainstream journals, and he has more than 90 papers and technical documents to his credit. These include four species accounts for the Birds of North America project. Denver was also team leader for the Strigidae family (owl) species accounts for The Handbook of the Birds of the World, Volume 5,which covers 189 species of the worldâs owls. Realizing childrenâs fascination with owls, Denver collaborated with elementary teachers to co-author two science books on owls: Owls, Whoo Are They? and Snowy Owls: Whoo Are They? In 2006 he was a chapter author on owls for the book Arctic Wings, which highlighted the birds of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. National Geographic magazine covered Denverâs research in a cover story in December 2002. Sound bites about his work have been seen on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Disney channels. His work has also been seen in many documentaries such as David Attenboroughâs Life of Birds. A PBS documentary film, âThe Magic of the Snowy Owlâ, aired in 2012, and was based on his 20 years of research on the breeding ecology of Snowy Owls in Barrow, Alaska. In 2013 Denver advised and assisted on a BBC Natural History film looking at predator-prey relationships in Snowy Owls.
