Greetings All: I spent a few minutes at Leroy Elmore Park (Lubbock) on Saturday evening, trying to tally all of the waders using the tree-covered island as a roost. Among the highlights: 1 injured Cackling Goose and 1 (lesser) Canada Goose, 1 male Wood Duck hanging around in the roots, 1 Neotropic Cormorant hanging out with 7 Double-crested Cormorants, 17 Snowy Egrets and 29 Cattle Egrets in the trees, and 32 White-faced Ibises atop the trees. This is a pretty cool assemblage of birds for the Lubbock region in June. Cormorants, particularly, have only recently started summering in the area and we seem to be able to stumble across both species most summers of late.
