In addition to our special Halloween bird walk tomorrow ( see the announcement below) we have another great opportunity this coming Friday. On Friday Nov 2 Dr. Keith Arnold, professor emeritus from Texas A&M University will present a program on the History of the Texas Ornithological Society. He will speak from 9-11 am at Kleb Woods Nature Center. As an active ornithologist for almost 50 years in Texas he has lived much of the ornithological history of the state. He has also been on the Texas Rare Bird Committee for 40 years and has reviewed all of the rare bird records for that period. He is a walking encyclopedia of bird distribution in Texas. I am sure if you bring his Field Guide to the Birds of Texas he will be happy to autograph it for you as well. If you have not had an opportunity to meet Dr. Arnold and hear him speak you should not pass up this opportunity. Hope to see you here this Friday! Participants are encouraged to wear costumes as long as they don't frighten birds. Audubon impersonators will not be allowed to discharge muskets in the park however! Roger Tory Peterson impersonators must speak loud enough for me to hear. Ken Kaufman impersonators may eat dog food but not Kough too loudly while getting it down. If you identify a bird correctly you will get a treat, if wrong a trick! Of course you must use the names on our special Halloween bird list to keep it interesting. Hope you will join us. The walk starts at the nature center building 20303 Draper Road, Tomball TX 77377 at 8:30 am. The walk usually goes until about 11:00 but I suspect this one will run a bit longer. Birding has been interesting of late, last Wednesday's walk had 5 Blood-breasted Nuthatchets (aka Red-breasted Nuthatches) and 2 Nightmare Mannikins (aka Nutmeg Manikin) Fred Collins (281) 357-5324 Director: Kleb Woods Nature Center Cypress Top Historical Park Commissioner Steve Radack Harris County Precinct 3 www.pct3.hctx.net<http://www.pct3.hctx.net>
