I had hoped that the small front from the north would help bring some migrants down into Quinta Mazatlan today, and it sure did! The bird walk got to see several warbler species: Nashville, Black-and-White, Yellow-rumped (both Myrtle and Audubon's), Orange-crowned, and Black-throated Green. There were also a few Broad-winged and one Swainson's Hawk migrating over. All these migrant species, along with the summer and permanent residents really getting into the breeding action, made it a great morning for birding! 47 Total Species Black-bellied Whistling-Duck 2 Plain Chachalaca 18 Great Blue Heron 1 Turkey Vulture 6 Broad-winged Hawk 10 Swainson's Hawk 1 American Coot 1 Killdeer 6 Rock Pigeon 20 White-winged Dove 12 Inca Dove 5 White-tipped Dove 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird 1 Buff-bellied Hummingbird 2 Golden-fronted Woodpecker 8 Ladder-backed Woodpecker 2 Eastern Phoebe 1 Vermilion Flycatcher 1 Great Kiskadee 5 Tropical Kingbird 2 Couch's Kingbird 4 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher 8 White-eyed Vireo 2 Barn Swallow 4 Cliff Swallow 3 Cave Swallow 16 Black-crested Titmouse 4 Carolina Wren 2 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 10 Clay-colored Thrush 2 Northern Mockingbird 7 Long-billed Thrasher 5 Curve-billed Thrasher 4 European Starling 14 Black-and-white Warbler 2 Orange-crowned Warbler 10 Nashville Warbler 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler (Myrtle) 8 Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon's) 1 Black-throated Green Warbler 2 Olive Sparrow 3 Lark Sparrow 1 Lincoln's Sparrow 2 Northern Cardinal 4 Red-winged Blackbird 30 Great-tailed Grackle 10 Lesser Goldfinch 4 House Sparrow 80 -- John Brush Edinburg, Texas Interpretive Guide Quinta Mazatlan WBC Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
