Hi, all!
Covered Section 9 of the Santa Ana CBC this morning, which includes the
farmlands north of the refuge and US 281 up to the levee, with Stewart Road
as the western border and some unnamed roads east of Border as the eastern
edge. The wind was pretty bad, so stuff was laying low, but highlights
included a very cooperative Loggerhead Shrike on a picturesque stump, a
Vermilion Flycatcher, three White-tailed Hawks and a Caracara waiting for
the cane burn to begin (I think they've learned to recognize that recorded
warning they broadcast... ;-) ), White-tailed Kite, Peregrine Falcon, and
the Burrowing Owl. No Sprague's Pipits this time, but with the wind, I'm not
surprised...
