And thank you for reporting your birds to this tape so others can find them. The long-eared owl that was seen at the Mitchell Lake appears to have left. The San Antonio Audubon Society has been a birding, education, and conservation club since 1954.. We meet regularly on the first Thursday of each month at 7 PM at The First Tee at 915 E. Mulberry at the south end of Brackenridge Park. The program for February 6 is Esther Yoon showing her Warbler Woods birding guide which is an entry in the ABA Young Birder contest and Ann Mallard with her year-long Photo Challenge and its results. To find the Center, go east from Boerne on FM 46 to the edge of town and the sign on the right to Boerne City Park and the Nature Center. Go to the parking lot at the end of the road. Jane's number is 210-288-7463 On Saturday, January 25, we are going to the Haggard Ranch in SW Bexar county at 9 AM. Take I-35 south about 4 miles south of 1604 to the Shepherd Road Exit. Exit here and go left over the expressway and another left on the northbound access road and go 0.5 mile to the access gate. The gate code is 2473. Make sure the gate closes behind you. Take I-10 west to the Welfare exit #533. Exit and continue on FM289 past Popo's. Go under I-10, turn right and take the first left into the park. Meet her at the first parking lot. Please call her if you plan to attend at 361-648-2719. Lunch in Boerne. On Tuesday, January 28 we will meet leader Sandi Wheeler at the Crescent Bend Nature Park at 9AM. To reach this park take I-10 east to FM 1518.Go north on 1518 to the brown sign to the park at Schafer Rd. Turn rightand go 3 miles to the park just before the Cibolo Creek crossing. Lunch at a local restaurant. The next Beginner's bird walk starts at the Judson Nature Trails near the Alamo Heights swimming pool on Viesca Street on Saturday, February 8. Meet leader Dick Bartels at 8:00AM Directions: at the 5900 block on Broadway, turn west on Ogden Street and go to the stop sign at Greely St. Turn left one block and then right on Viesca and go to the parking lot on the left before the swimming pool. We have some binoculars to lend out, so bring a friend. There will be bird walks at Mitchell Lake Audubon Center Beginning at 8 AM on the 1st Sunday, 2nd Sunday, 3rd Sunday, and the 2nd Tuesday The 4th Saturday trip always starts at 8 AM.. The Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is open each Tuesday through Sunday from 8 to 4. A fee is charged since this place is now an Audubon Center. Just ring the buzzer and they will open the gate.. Just call the Center at 210-628-1639. for more info. The gate is on the left 0.7 mile south of loop 410 Moursund Blvd, exit #46. There is a bird walk on the third Saturday of each month at 9 AM at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. This is not a SAAS trip, but is usually very interesting. There is a fee for entrance to the garden. Every one is welcome at our activities and you don't have to be a member to participate.
