I had responded to Brush's post privately, but since he included me in his reply, I should probably clarify to readers that I posted an RCKI on ebird on Sep 2 for my Christmas Mountains Oasis. I thought nothing of it, other than it being my first for the season. Then when ebird flagged it, I started second guessing myself. If mine was a Hutton's, it would be a new yard bird for me. I had thought I heard RCKI chatter at the time, but in retrospect, not even positive about that. Hummers fight and chatter a lot. Since I had no idea it would be unusual, I didn't attempt to photograph it, and barely paid it any attention. Lesson learned. FOS always gets attention from now on. That said it was seen at about 40 feet thru my window in a cedar as I was watching orioles etc. at the bird baths. A Hutton's would be quiet rare here with only 2 county records, but I can happily wait for confirmation on either. Frankly at the time Hutton's did not enter my mind. Thanks.
