I put to bed at 7:40pm a Pacific Loon at the Port of Palacios. The best
viewing will likely be at the south end of 11th Street; the closest viewing
could be at the end of 12th Street though moored shrimp boats could obscure
your view.
The bird was first located this morning and then flushed when a gulf shrimp
boat entered the harbor. The bird flew over the port twice before heading out
into the bay. I thought the bird was gone but checked again at about 6pm and
found the bird in more or less the same spot. So-so pics attached to the eBird
record.
Also visiting today from out of town were:
- a handsome Rose-breasted Grosbeak
- both Indigo and Painted Buntings
- both Summer and Scarlet Tanager
- 8 species of warblers (Golden-winged, Worm-eating, Blue-winged,
Chestnut-sided, Nashville, N. Waterthrush, B&W, Tennessee)
Good birding on this blustery, sometimes wet day on the coast.
