With strong weather to the north of us and pending flash flooding all across
Central Texas (again), the swifts were apparently stopped south of the
storm. We estimated more than 1000 swifts circling at dusk. Never seen the
like in more than 30 years of observations here at Travis Audubon's Chaetura
Canyon Sanctuary. 516 went to roost in the South Tower. Many others
branched out over the sanctuary to roost in some of the other 17 towers.
This was a record count for us. Quite a sight...
