Chuck and I stopped by the Sabinal River Lodge today to book a room for
Sunday night but she was full. She did invite us to look around the
grounds. I saw many Black-chinned but no Green Violetear. Chuck's
grandparents and extended family are buried in Utopia so we really had a
great visit at the cemetery where
I saw Bell's Vireos, GF Woodpeckers, Bewick's Wrens, BC Titmice, Lark
Sparrows, BC hummers, Dickcissel, and 10 Egyptian Geese nearby on the golf
course!

Subject: [texbirds] No luck with Green Violetear
My wife and I spent the night last night at Sabinal River Lodge in Utopia
and failed to see the Green Violetear. We saw as many as 40 Black-chinned
hummingbirds feeding from the five hummingbird feeders. We watched the
feeders off and on from 3:30-9:00 pm last night and from
6:30-8:30 am today. We spoke with the owner last night and she said the
bird had not been seen for five days.
It was is a lovely property and we went swimming in the river which
borders the lodge. So, while we dipped on the bird we nevertheless enjoyed
our time there.
