Hello All,

New to Texbirds, saw a lot of good birds this week. Happy to see a black
throated green warbler 4 different days on private land near Jefferson. Also
saw Nashville & Tennessee warblers, rose breasted grosbeak, probably Baltimore
Oriole and northern parula, indigo & painted buntings. Plenty of cardinals and
some woodpeckers,  too. Also Red eyed & white eyed vireo, Swainson's thrush,
and great crested flycatcher.

If you would like to go to this spot let me know, it shouldn't be a problem &
there are trails. No charge.

The Mississippi kites are back, saw those, a great crested flycatcher,  and  a
white crowned  sparrow in my yard, in addition to other birds. A phoebe seemed
to be helping with the mosquitoes.

Drove to Longview yesterday,  stopped at the eastern end of Lake O ' the Pines
dam, and watched the cliff sparrows. There is a colony on the bridge and and
they apparently get nest material from the puddles in the pull out. Nice to see
them.

While driving across the dam, saw a black and white bird, maybe 11-12". Don't
remember seeing one like that, if you have any idea what it might be let me
know. Hoping to see it again.

Saw red tails from gas station parking lot in Harleton, Best Buy parking lot,
and 281/259 intersection. Saw what looked like cliff sparrows on the overpass
at 2208/281. Have seen what looked like red shouldered over Walmart recently
(last week? )

A red headed flew in front of me while driving,  and a shrike was on a power
line 1 mile or so from Kellyville on 729. Pretty good, considering. So keep
your eyes peeled in town.

Got a pair of Tasco featherweights this week,  the older tascos seem quite
good. I also have 306 & 312. I think they are all JT-II vintage.  If you see a
pair its worth a look, the 7x50's especially  and featherweights are pretty
good.  Had a bad pair of zip focus 12x50 though.

Realize that many of these have some fungus and haze, which can usually be
cleaned well enough, will need to be collimated /conditionally aligned. I found
a good YouTube video and some websites on collimation,  you might need a
spanner wrench, though.
