Hello all:
On this late, overcast and windy morning (at around 10:15 am), I briefly
cruised by Lake McClellan after entering the National Grassland from the NW.
After stopping to scan the lake from between the large group shelter and
McClellan campground, I came across a gorgeous adult male Vermilion Flycatcher
sallying in the tallest stand of trees. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera
with me but there was no mistaking the bird. Also, of note, I had calling Sora
and Virginia Rails below the dam on the NE side of the lake, and scattered all
across the lake were loads of waterfowl, at least 15 species.
Here are the coordinates to the VEFL: 35.212718, -100.873443
Happy spring and regards,
