Spotted the very dark, 1st-year Heerman's Gull about 12:50pm today at the
fish-cleaning station next to the first (westernmost) boat ramp on the north
side of the Texas City Dike. Dark gray overall with black terminal tail band,
therefore a 1st-yr bird. Base of bill dark red. Slightly larger and much
quieter than the surrounding flock of Laughing, Herring, and Ring-billed Gulls.
Before today, I'd only seen HEEGs in California.
