The Lubbock County CBC will be held on Saturday, 14 December 2019.
Teams will meet with their team leaders at locations selected by the
team leaders by 7:30 AM, we will count until 5:00 PM, and a potluck
dinner and countdown will be held at the compiler's house at 5:00 PM
with the countdown to start at 6:00 PM. The count circle is divided
into eight areas and, ideally, I would have 24 participants: eight
leaders and two additional counters per team.
The Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge CBC will be held on Sunday, 15
December 2019. We will meet at the refuge residence at 7:30 AM, bird
until 11:30 AM (the count is refuge-restricted and doesn't take as
long as most CBCs), and then meet back at the residence for a potluck
lunch and countdown at noon. The circle is divided into five areas
and, ideally, I would have five team leaders and ten additional
counters.
The White River Lake CBC will be held on Saturday, 28 December 2019.
We will meet at the White River Lake Marina at 7:30 AM, bird until
4:30 PM or so, and then meet up for supper and a countdown at a yet to
be determined location (some years the marina restaurant stays open
long enough; some years we travel back to Lubbock for a potluck). The
circle is divided into five routes and, ideally, I hope to gather
together five team leaders and ten additional counters.
Conditions have been pretty good in the region this year and, looking
at long-range forecasts, we anticipate a pretty good CBC season. I do
my best to assure that every route has some habitat diversity and, in
my opinion, the potluck/countdown system is a lot of fun with people
getting a chance to visit with seldom-seen friends and to meet new
birding enthusiasts.
