Started out on Porter Road waiting for the short-eared owls. At 29 degrees
I was glad there was no wind. Probably 3 owls were seen between 6:20 and
6:40 with each bird appearing to go down where owls have gone down before.
Only one northern harrier remained in the area compared to the many that
have been there all winter. The horned owl was perched up around the corner
but I heard none hooting in the cold. One short-ear came right overhead
before it saw me.
Lots of meadowlarks still around everywhere with good numbers of western
meadowlarks singing once it warmed a little. One flock in Paul Rushing and
lots of singing on the hill going up Pennick.

Sparrow numbers down and variety changed. More lincoln's today and almost
no vespers. Harris's commoner than white-crowns. The pair of bewick's wrens
was still calling and flying around together on Longenbaugh.

Did not find either ferruginous hawk with 2 looks for each. A red-tail was
perched in the ferruginous' favorite tree up on Berry and another red-tail
was on the fence near where it also perches.

Hawks were migrating including a peregrine where I hoped for a prairie
again and numbers of harriers. Once it warmed and the south wind rose,
red-tails were also going north. A harlan's hawk was at the corner of
Pennick and Hebert. Caracara everywhere. Cranes were mainly way up there
and the calls were going north. Dancing birds were still up along Baethe.

No kiskadees were at Paul Rushing but the single couch's kingbird was
feeding along the fence. Wanted to feed in its favorite spot which is also
where a mockingbird is building a nest. Much todo as a result.

The solitary sandpiper is still in the morgan road pond with a snipe and a
telltale godwit. Pond is drying.

Stopped at Bear Creek park at noon which is not the best time but good
looks at woodpeckers and sapsucker wells and the common birds but not the
specialties.
