Greetings All:
I spent four hours working the Canyon Lakes on Sunday, hoping that
unsettled weather had dropped some migrants.

One hour spent along the riparian corridor below Lake Six kicked out a mere
11 species (yikes!) and the only highlights were 1 Cooper's Hawk, 1 Eastern
Phoebe, and 1 Carolina Wren (all of which were also seen by Alan
Livingston).

One hour spent at Lake Six yielded 31 species (better but not that good)
including 1 Double-crested Cormorant, 1 Great Egret, 1 Snowy Egret, 1
Osprey, 1 Cooper's Hawk, 1 Swainson's Hawk, 4 Chimney Swifts, 4
Orange-crowned Warblers, 1 Nashville Warbler, 1 MacGillivray's Warbler, and
3 Wilson's Warblers.

Two hours at the Purina Mountain Bike Trail kicked out 28 species,
including 8 Wild Turkeys, 2 Turkey Vultures, 1 Osprey, 1 adult and 2
immature Broad-winged Hawks, 1 Swainson's Hawk, 3 Chimney Swifts, 1 House
Wren, 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, 1 Gray Catbird (seen earlier in the day, I
believe, by Peter Keyel), 1 Brown Thrasher, 1 Orange-crowned Warbler, 3
Wilson's Warblers, 1 Song Sparrow, and 2 Lincoln's Sparrows.

Not particularly good for four hours spent in our best migrant spots during
the first weekend of October but it was good to get out and some of the
birds were pretty nifty.
