I spent several hours in Hockley County this morning and had a pretty good
time - mostly with amphibians and butterflies as a small storm system
dampened the northern half of the county and sun-warmed blossoms were
everywhere else.
I did have some avian highlights including 2 Blue-winged Teals west of
Anton, 1 Northern Shoveler near Roundup, 2 Northern Pintails near Roundup,
2 Northern Pintails west of Anton, 2 Scaled Quails at the Smyer Cemetery, 2
Cattle Egrets at Levelland City Park, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron at Anton
Ponds, 18 White-faced Ibises near Roundup, 4 Black-necked Stilts near
Roundup, 2 Black-necked Stilts north of Levelland, 2 Black-necked Stilts
west of Anton, 10 American Avocets near Roundup, 4 American Avocets north
of Levelland, 2 American Avocets west of Anton, 3 Greater Yellowlegs near
Roundup, 3 male Bronzed Cowbirds at the Anton Ponds, and 1 female/2 male
Bronzed Cowbirds north of Levelland.
I got some nice pictures of Plains Spadefoots - absolutely adorbs.
