I chased critters in Hockley County for a little over fiver hours on
Sunday, 10 July 2016, morning.
The best sighting was of 2 Marbled Godwits at the Roundup Playa.
Other highlights were 1 Canada Goose at the Smyer Playa, 6 Blue-winged
Teals west of Anton, 5 Blue-winged Teals at the Smyer Playa, 1 Cinnamon
Teal west of Anton, 2 Northern Pintails at the Roundup Playa, 2
Green-winged Teals west of Anton, 1 Redhead at the Roundup Playa, 1 Cattle
Egret at the Roundup Playa, 12 White-faced Ibises at the Roundup Playa, 4
Black-necked Stilts north of Levelland, 2 Black-necked Stilts at the
Roundup Playa, 2 Black-necked Stilts at the Smyer Playa, 4 Black-necked
Stilts west of Anton, 52 American Avocets north of Levelland, 6 American
Avocets at the Roundup Playa, 4 American Avocets at the Smyer Playa, 1
Greater Yellowlegs at the Smyer Playa, 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper at the
Smyer Playa, 3 Western Sandpipers at the Smyer Playa, 1 Yellow-billed
Cuckoo at the Anton Ponds, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo at the Levelland Rest
Area, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo at the Smyer Playa, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo at
the West x 13th Woodlot in Levelland, 4 Yellow-headed Blackbirds at the
Roundup Playa, and 11 Yellow-headed Blackbirds at the Smyer Playa.
The only regularly occurring shorebirds I lack for Hockley County this year
are Black-bellied Plover, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Red-necked Phalarope -
amazing!
