I birded the areas around Granger and Thrall (eastern Williamson Co.) between 7:30 am and noon today. The main highlights were 10 shorebird species [including Black-necked Stilts (surprisingly rare in the county) and a Buff-breasted Sandpiper- the majority of the shorebirds were at Reservoir 17 on CR 473, just south of FM 112 as reported by Chuck Sexton earlier this week), Wood Storks, and a pair of vocal Pileated Woodpeckers stripping bark on dead trees along the trail that runs west of the primitive boat ramp in the San Gabriel WMA (access road runs south at the sharp turn north on CR 347, east of HWY 95).
