In the intermittent drizzle, Pleasure Acres lived up to its name this
morning. Highlights were an American Bittern in ponds along the far west
portion of the property, 18 American Avocets circling the lake looking for
a place to land, a flyover Osprey, single Prothonotary, Nashville,
Tennessee and Black-and-White Warblers, a Painted Bunting, a Blue Grosbeak,
3 Baltimore Orioles, a male Yellow-headed Blackbird that flew into the
reeds of the main lake, and lots of Indigo Buntings. At one point, I had 6
males in one binocular field.
The American Avocets were particularly notable, as we rarely get them in
spring here. This is only my second spring record (versus 11 fall records)
in Smith county in the past 18 years, the last in May, 2000,

Peter Barnes,
Tyler
