I birded Estero Llano Grande State Park and Frontera Audubon refuge today with good birds found. Bird of the day was a Golden-winged Warbler at Frontera. It was the first bird I focused my binoculars on, and thanks to my amazed stupor I did not get a photograph. Oh well. Also at Frontera I found Wilson's, Yellow, Black-and-white, Black-throated Green and Nashville warblers, and an Ovenbird, Green Kingfishers (3), Mississippi Kites overhead (7), Olive-sided Flycatcher (1), Great Crested flycatcher (2), Empid species (1), Gray Hawk (heard only), and Yellow-crowned Night-heron. At Estero highlights included Sora (2), Least Bittern, Belted Kingfisher, Rufous Hummingbird, Black-chinned Hummingbird (?), Ruby-throated Humingbird (8-10), and some nifty herons and egrets. The day was cloudy, cool, windy, overcast, mosquito-ridden and rainy, but wow it was fun.
