Rachel and I spent the afternoon today at Lafitte's and vicinity. Lafitte's
had a few good birds but given the time of year and northerly winds it was
far below average. Managed about 10 warbler species there with little
effort. A few tanagers, grosbeaks and thrushes but no good numbers. Decent
assortment of shorebirds on the front ponds, or what is left of them as
they quickly dry up.
The best late evening birding was along Settegast Road where we ran into a
group of 10 Western Kingbirds and 8 Eastern Kingbirds sitting along the
fences. That makes for the biggest group of Western Kingbirds I have seen
along the coast in the past few years. Also along Settegast there was a
Yellow billed Cuckoo and a few other migrants including several Whimbrel.

Good Birding,

John Tharp
