I just thought I would follow this email up with a note that I received a very prompt reply from Shannon Thompkins from the Houston Chronicle. He appreciated the recommendations and said he would put together something to print. He does however think that it would be better and more effective to do it around next October just before hunting season. That way it would have the most effect. He also apologized profusely for the mistake. He said he has had a number of very angry and some almost abusive emails since the article was printed. I believe he will do what he said he will do and hopefully his editor agrees. Central Standard Time Subj: [texbirds] Snipe ID Article I think all of you remember I was a waterfowl guide many years ago, but you don't know that Shannon Tompkins is an old friend although I have not seen or talked to him for years now. Shannon was a waterfowl guide on the East Unit of the Anahuac refuge at the same time I was. I can assure you he does know what a Wilson's Snipe looks like, however he most definitely make a mistake. As an old friend I have written him an email forwarding some of the ideas seen in the other emails such as an article not only correcting the bad ID but showing some of the other look a likes that are there to contend with. I suggested to him that I was sure the birding community would be happy to help with ID's etc and maybe some of the key GIZ to look for. I will see what response I get back and keep you posted.
