I spent eight hours chasing birds (and other critters) in Crosby County
yesterday, notching two more species in my game with Rich Kostecke
(Chestnut-collared Longspur and Harris's Sparrow) and stumbling across a
decent number of highlights despite the ongoing drydown.
Highlights included a flock of 3 Greater White-fronted Geese, 28 Snow
Geese, and 2 Ross's Geese flying over the FM 193 x FM 651 canyon crossing,
4 Wood Ducks south of Broadway, 6 Redheads south of Crosbyton, 7 male
Common Mergansers at White River Lake, 1 Wilson's Snipe south of Ralls, 1
Greater Yellowlegs south of Ralls, 1 Great Egret at White River Lake, 1
Rough-legged Hawk north of Broadway, 2 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers at Silver
Falls Rest Area, 1 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at White River Lake, 1 Downy
Woodpecker at Camp Rio Blanco crossing, 1 Eastern Phoebe at Silver Falls
Rest Area, 2 Common Ravens at Camp Rio Blanco crossing, 1 Common Raven
north of Broadway, 2 Common Ravens south of Crosbyton, 1 Common Raven
southeast of Mt. Blanco, 1 Common Raven west of White River Lake, 2 Rock
Wrens at the FM 193 x FM 651 crossing, 2 Canyon Wrens at Silver Falls Rest
Area, 1 House Wren at FM 193 x FM 651 crossing, 1 Golden-crowned Kinglet at
Camp Rio Blanco crossing, 5 Eastern Bluebirds at Camp Rio Blanco crossing,
4 Eastern Bluebirds west of White River lake, 53 Mountain Bluebirds at Camp

Hermit Thrushes at FM 193 x FM 651 crossing, 1 Hermit Thrush at Silver
