Hi all - My Hummer Extravaganza has not been as good as on Thursday, probably because the morning temps have been higher, so the hummingbirds have been less feisty about defending their favorite feeders. On Saturday I saw 6, 48 (Jimmie Johnson), Speckles, and Slash, but not the Calliope. Bron Rorex came over on Friday morning to try and band some, but only have a few hours to spend, and the birds did not cooperate. However, yesterday featured a beautiful Lark Sparrow that hung around the yard all day, feeding in the short grasses of the side yard. I was able to set up the spotting scope and a chair and eventually had views at 15 feet away and 70x - head shots! Of course, a few photos and videos were taken. At almost 5:45 last evening, it was getting dark and we were fussing with Xmas lights when I heard the chuckle of an American Robin! A few seconds later SIX of them flew from the Texas Olive tree to my neighbor's yard - excellent! This morning, I heard them again across the street. Maybe they will bring some more of their northern friends. Time to re-stock the hummer feeders.....
