Made the trip with Barbara Hickl, Bernice Hotman and Donna Rybiski to the Muleshoe/Sudan area for the Common Crane starting Monday Dec 15. After searching thru lots of Sandhill Cranes we did not find the bird so we decided to go with percentages (smaller search area and more recent reported sighting) and went for the Roswell, NM bird. Ran into a couple of guys from Arizona (Mike and Larry), traded phone numbers and on Tuesday (Dec 16) they found the bird however it was chased off just moments before we arrived. Bummer! Lots of big vehicles travel the roads keep the cranes worry. However after lunch Bernice found the bird among 1700 Sandhill Cranes in another nearby location. Yeah for Bernice. It definitely helps to have multiple eyes to find this birds, lots of patience and help from others with sharing of information.
