I was out at the Hargill Playa (Hidalgo Co.) between 8:15 and 8:45 this
morning, checking the playa at Lincoln and First. The spot to check from is
the berm along 1st, the dirt road that runs along the north side. The
Collared Plover was very cooperative, in good light, as it ran and walked
across the flats. A Snowy Plover was also present, but is much lighter
grayish on the head and upperparts, and has the partial dark collar,
compared to the light brownish upperparts, no hind-collar, but full dark
front collar of the Collared. There was a decent variety of other birds,
such as Wilson's Phalarope, Wilson's Plover, Western Sandpiper, American
Avocet, Gull-billed and Least Terns, among others. Mary Beth's Birder
Patrol was out there, along with some other folks, having a good time!
Best regards,
Tim Brush
