On yesterday's Harlingen Christmas Bird Count (January 3), Mike Miller, Bill Minyard and I came across an active White-tailed Kite nest in San Benito containing two fairly advanced young. They seem to be on the verge of fledging but this morning were still being fed in the nest by the parent birds. My guess from this is that they are about a month old. This is an extraordinary date for nesting White-tailed Kites. In his article in Cornell's *The Birds of North America Online*, Jeffrey Dunk states that their breeding cycle in North America extends from early February to early August with young from mid-March to early August. Oberholser's dates for eggs in *The Bird Life of Texas *are March 18 to August 21. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has other records of White-tailed Kites nesting in winter in Texas or elsewhere in North America.
