Snake birding works real well for ear birders..I can't imagine how many
times I have heard/seen birds hounding snakes (or screech owls), but many
of those times could never locate the snake or whatever drew their
attention. At the Utley cabin it happens very frequently to the point I
just listen to the drama from inside etc. ....85% of the time if it is a
snake, it will be the default Texas Rat Snake there. A couple of weeks ago
a TRS was 30'+ up in an oak and the jays etc. were in fits...No migrants
tho.

We heard the birds raising a ruckus off the front deck about 11:00 AM and
when for a look. A very nice, large Texas Rat Snake was making its way
along the garden wall below. The audience included Carolina Chickadees,

Rains have been beneficial with no problems locally: 10â + and counting
since the system first came through. With few aerial insects to feed on,

the day and only going out for a couple of hours before sunset.
