Here are a few pictures from the Smith Point Hawk Tower from Monday 10/7/13. The Pileated Woodpecker flew by the tower not once but twice while we were there. Once on the bay side and then coming back to the woods on the North side of the tower. Hawk flight that day was very good with a lot of Broad-wings and Coopers Hawks with a few Sharpies in the mix. Here at home by Monday afternoon our Hummingbird numbers were maybe down to 3-4. There were probably 25-30 that morning early. This morning we are back up to maybe 9-10. I looked outside early this morning in time to see a Carolina Wren sitting on our wood swing. As I was sitting watching and photographing the hummers this morning we had a new yard bird show up. The first American Kestrel showed up in the top of a tree. The poor little guy was assaulted by at least 5 Blue Jays and as it flew away it was followed by three of them. http://smu.gs/17WpmU9 David Hanson Baytown/Mont Belvieu Area Chambers County Galveston Bay Area Master Naturalist TOS Member Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
