Not Emus, but instead, my neighbor on my Edwards County place had Rheas.
When I bought my place in 2004 there were 30+ of them roaming around,
including one white one that stood out. I had to drive through his ranch in
order to get to my place so I got to see them quite often. By the time I
sold my place in 2011 there were only 3 left. I called them Manny, Mo, and
Jack because when they startled about something they were pretty peppy.
They would take off running, flailing their wings. They would wander on to
adjacent ranches on occasion so when I birded the side that bordered Jerry's
place I always hoped to have them on my side of the fence so I could put
them on my yardlist...didn't happen, darnit. ;-)

If you need photos of Rheas, I have some.

20+ years ago I could have provided you with photos of large ranging
20+ flocks
of Emus, they bred and were present in large numbers , usually around fenced
rural out buildings and were especially prized by some birders that went to
great pains and expense to feed and attract them....But alas they have
become near extinct in my region,. I still see the former habitats, typical
surrounded by wire fencing, the various plastic watering and feeding
containers cracked and bleaching in the sun and the usual disarray..It is
not clear what brought about their demise...Perhaps decreasing quality of
habitat, starvation, over-hunting, poaching, mowing, but probably just a
general lack of interest in conserving this resource by people that found
the birds cause them to lose their shirts or other commodities. I miss
hearing their silent crowing on clear a morn. First go the Prairie Chickens
and then the Emu. The five acre prairies will never be the same, the zebras
and Black Bucks will roam without them.. Maybe you can substitute*
guineafowl*
