Hi David,
I wanted to comment on your dark, juvenile gull from Bolivar Flats. Based
on what can be ascertained from the photos, it appears to be a juvenile
Herring Gull or Iceland Gull (Thayer's). The white feathering around the
base of the bill, the entirely black bill and silvery sheen of the ventral
primaries rule out juvenile Heermann's Gull. Based on the daintier size and
the pale flight feathers you could make a case for juvenile Iceland Gull
(Thayer's) though I'd be cautious without a prolonged study or better
photos.
