After many years, David Mitchell has finally retired as the compiler of the Bastrop CBC. As I understand it, he tried to retire a few years back, but that didnt work out. This time, he says hes serious about retiring! Thank you David for all of your time and effort compiling the count! Laurie Foss and I will now be compiling the count. After much consulting and surveying of prior participants, we have decided to continue to hold the count on January 1st. From our experience, counting birds in Bastrop is the perfect way to bring in the new year! So, join us on Wednesday, January 1st, for this years count. We need many birders to adequately survey the birds in the circle area to find all of the expected species and the rare species visiting the area. We would especially like to have some feeder watchers, so if you live within the circle and have bird feeders, please participate. For more information about CBCs in general, see http://birds.audubon.org/christmas-bird-count. For more specific information about the Bastrop CBC including a map showing the count circle, check out Lauries new website at www.bastropcbc.com. Email Shelia Hargis and Laurie Foss at bastroptxcbc@xxxxxxxxx with questions or to register.
