Hi Charles, Have you done chkdsk /f (typed into RUN) and defrag? Also run ad-aware (as another tech recommended). Make sure your startup folder has very few programs checked. Do an on-line virus scan at Panda and Trend ("Housecall"). It is common for one antivirus program to find viruses which another one missed. http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/actives http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp If that doesn't help and you have an original XP Home CD, reinstall Windows XP by selecting "Setup Windows", then "Repair" (NOT "Fresh Copy"). This will often fix a number of problems, and all your programs will still work. This is also known as an upgrade install. It takes less than an hour to do this. All day to find nothing wrong. -- Best regards, Bil Green 2001 TV VCR Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546 760-934-2001 mailto:tv.vcrrepair@xxxxxxxxxxx Wednesday, October 15, 2003, 10:51:27 AM, you wrote: r> I have been having computer problems for several days, I had to replace my r> modem last week, would drop out every few seconds, my problem I have now is r> that once I connect to internet, within a few minues, every thing slows r> down, email would take several seconds to load one small message, sometimes r> pc would hang up, non responsive, disconnect it runs fine,(iam using r> earthlonk dialup), last week I ran updated virus scan(mcafee), found one r> infected file in local settings, called js no close, mcafee, removed it, I r> defragged ,did symstem updates, nothing helps, I am running windows xp home r> edition, when I bring up task manager, and look at cpu usage, it shows r> usuage is spiking, at regular intervals from 5to 10% to 100%, the realtime r> graph looks like a series of narrow spikes, I have done every thing I can r> think of, any help would be greatly appreciated. r> charles betzler r> Best Electronics r> repair1@xxxxxxxxxxxxx r> ***************************************************************************** r> Classifieds!
