Al,
If that cap was bad, I would double check the traces from the cap. I have never
heard of any other failure on these, other than you
must use correct size belt...too tight may bind the capstan.

Have a friends old VCR with no capst movement.
Replaced cap & Capst driver chip - no help.
Chk'd all traces on Capst pcb. -OK.
Would like to chk voltages for capst ckt
need service manual , any takers on this?
