Hi Tony, I contacted a hard drive recovery tech a couple years ago and he said that Seagate has about the least problems (such as head crashes). But if you don't want to lose tons of data you'll need to back up regularly no matter which drive you get. They all have major failures at some point (and some fail when new). I recommend installing a removable hard drive mount. I just slip in a second drive in when I want to backup (and use Drive Clone or Ghost). If you keep powered up all the time and just happen to have a major surge you can lose both drives.
