[TechAssist] Sony DVD Player, M#HCD-S300, Will not read DVD's

Sony DVD Player, M#HCD-S300, Will not read DVD's.
This unit will play CD's with no problem, but not DVD's.
Customer states that the problem was degrading over some time.
There are no adjustment pots for Laser voltage etc. in this unit.
I assume adjustment is made via a service menu or by some other means.
Need help here.
